Three Artist Show

"Views of Oregon"

June 1st - August 1st, 2008

Three wonderful landscape painters share their love of Oregon's diverse beauty. This show focuses on the artists' variety of style and media, including oils, mixed media, and acrylic, as well as the varied scenery of Oregon's Urban, rural, and coastal offerings.

georgeCorneilGeorge Corneil was born in Klamath Falls Oregon and started drawing at an early age. He studied commercial art and graduated from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. His career was as a freelance commercial artist, and as an advertising agency art director in Portland, Oregon. He finished his career as a principal for Morton Advertising.

George CorneilGeorge is a member of the Oregon Society Of Artists and a past President of the Lake Area Artists. His subject matter is broad, enjoying painting what is around him, in watercolor, mixed media, acrylic, charcoal, and oil. He is grateful for his talent and has a strong interest in continuing to learn and enjoy painting.

Gary GodfreyGary Godfrey was born in Emmett, Idaho in 1931 and has lived mainly in Washington, Idaho, and Oregon. During Gary's childhood, his father worked in construction and the family moved frequently. During this time Gary became acquainted with some of the world’s most beautiful scenery. Gary's art is mostly self-taught, except for having taken woodworking, basic design, and engineering drawing during his years at Oregon State College. Art books and public television programs became his main instructors and mentors. He paints primarily landscapes, but also anything that intrigues him. As he puts it, he paints "his world."

Gary GodfreyWhile still in college, Gary met and married Barbara (Bobbie) Hoy. After Gary graduated from college he concentrated on work and family, with almost no time left to paint. During these years his art consisted of casual sketches and some oil paintings. His favorites were a sailing ship on the ocean, three men looking through a crack in an old barn, and a painting he called the "Rainman." He entered the sailing ship painting in the Washington County Fair and received a second place ribbon.

Now Gary is retired and has returned to his life-long love of painting. He concentrates on acrylics, exploring a wide range of subjects, and is enjoying himself immensely.

Jim SmithJames F. Smith, finding himself unemployed and bored in 1968, began painting by utilizing how-to books. He has since studied with Jim Westall, E. John Robinson, Harold Walkup, Katherine Friday and Florence Thurman. He began showing and demonstrating his work at the Washington County Fair in 1968. Jim has been teaching at PCC in adult classes. Has also exhibited at numerous galleries on the Coast and in the Portland area. Smith is currently showing his work at the Influence Gallery and the International Miniature shows in Pennsylvania and Nag Head, North Carolina. Smith is the owner of the web site http://groups.yahoo.com/group/miniatureart/ with 100 members in the group from all around the world. Jim SmithA second generation artist, Smith owned and operated the Paint'n Place in Hillsboro with his mother, the late Stella Dralle. Disabled twice by brain surgeries in 1976 and again in 1992, Smith firmly believes success in art is a matter of tenacity rather than purely talent. He has taught art classes locally and at the coast for 40 years.
