MARIANNE FIELDS

"All My Friends"

February 10th - March 31st, 2008

Marianne FieldsMarianne Fields was born in Lebanon, Oregon in 1936. Her Family resided in Sweet Home, Oregon in the winter, and spent their summers at Fish Lake in the Western Cascades. It was these first years, of being surrounded by beauty, that heightened her awareness of the world around her.

Marianne FieldsWhen she was six her parents moved to Portland where she was introduced to the city’s art recreation programs. It was then that she became aware of drawing and by eight had learned pastels. The Portland art Museum sparked further interest in her young artist's life. By ten years old Fields had begun working in oil paints, when they once again returned to Sweet Home. Both of her parents were supportive of her art interests and taught her to work hard at it.

Marianne FieldsDuring her High School years she was further exposed to new medias in art and had taken classes in watercolor and tempura. While she was in high school she studied art through the Oregon State University's Extension Program. Other interests she had were playing the saxophone, performing in school plays, making sets, and designing costumes. During her summers she taught Bible school classes and enjoyed a part-time job tinting photos for a local photographer.

Marianne FieldsIn 1954 Marianne entered the University of Oregon as an art major. Summers were spent with the King County Camp Fire Girls as the Art Director on Vashon Island, Washington. After graduation from U of O she worked as a field director for the Portland area Camp Fire Girls.

Marianne FieldsFields married in 1960, moved to Hillsboro, and raised 3 children. At this time she balanced family life with teaching art and recreation. Through these years she also became a costumer and delved further into her art adding other mediums to her portfolio.

Marianne FieldsSince her children have grown up and left home Fields continued working on her art and enjoyed teaching classes at the Tyson Art Center in Hillsboro.Marianne Fields Presently Fields feels privileged to belong to the Main street Art Society and participates in art showings with them. Other art related adventures include Paint and Palette, Beaverton Showcase, and a Chairperson's position for the Arts and Crafts at the Washington County Fair. Works of art in private collections are with the Oregon State Extension Service, Beaverton Mayor's Office, John Lawrence, and others.
