DICK RUMBLE
"Images of Oregon and Other Places "
September 17 - October 28th, 2006
I was born in Portland in 1935 and grew up in Northeast Portland. After graduating from high school, I enrolled at Portland State University and graduated in 1957 with a degree in Social Science. Later, I earned an M. Ed. in Secondary Education at the University of Portland and an M.Ed.
in Counseling at the University of Southern California. I spent thirty-two years working in the Portland Public School system as a teacher, counselor and a school administrator.
When I retired, I knew I had to find an activity, so I enrolled in an oil painting class at Portland Community College. That was the beginning of my life as an artist. Since enrolling at PCC, I have continuously taken classes. I have studied with at least
ten outstanding teachers and have progressed well with painting with oils, acrylics and watercolors. During my time at PCC, I have earned Best of Show (1998), Honorable Mention (1999), and an Achievement Award (2004) in student art shows. My work has been exhibited in a number of shows and in three galleries on the Oregon Coast. I am currently a member of the Oregon Society of Artists.
My paintings reflect my travel experiences and an interest in both urban and rural environments. Realism best describes my work; however, the juxtaposition of colors and an abstract style give some of my paintings a different appearance. Oils are a favorite medium, although recently I have focused more on acrylic and watercolor painting.
