Mary Coleman
“Works from a Lifetime of Art Making”
April 18th – June 6th, 2004
The Golden Gallery’s first resident artist exhibition was by 91-year-old Mary Coleman, who has lived at Beaverton Lodge since 1987. She has a long history as an artist and as an art teacher, and was educated at the Portland Museum Art School and Reed College. She taught art for 12 years at Cleveland High School.
Mary’s facility as an artist rests largely on her beautiful and expressive use of line and color, which has led her to
paint such subjects as landscapes and seascapes, flowers and atomic structures. She works in a variety of media including Prima pencil, ink, watercolor and oil paint. She has shown at galleries in Old Sellwood, The White Bird gallery at the coast, and the prestigious Elizabeth Leach gallery.
“The exciting news is Beaverton Lodge now has an art gallery, and it’s called the Golden Gallery.”
